Well the big day is fast approaching for Elena's first Dundee half marathon, check out her past few days on the lead up to the big day!!

Harder, better, faster, stronger - Wednesday 13 July 2011

Yesterday I went along to my second running sisters session.   There was only two of us but as it turned out my fellow sister was the same one who had run alongside me on Monday night.   We competed a 4 mile run starting at riverside cafe past Dundee airport up a hill (another one!) towards Dundee University Botanics, then along Perth Road, turning down Roseangle, over bridge and back along riverside to the start.   It was absolutly fantastic! I ran my fastest ever 4 miler and kept a good consistent pace with my experienced sister.  My excitement lasted all night.  I was so chuffed.   You know it is a good run when you still feel you can continue on running at the end.  Well that is how I felt :)

Tomorrow is another rest day and I am fighting hard the urge to do more runs.  The risk of doing too many runs in the lead up to race day may have negative repercussions for my race.   So despite really wanting to do another run I have to sit back and have faith that all my past six months training will have prepared me the best for Sunday....

Crnchie time - Thursday 14 July 11

So after yesterdays 6 miler I was following the experienced runners advice and taking a rest day.  However even without running there is plenty  of exercises that can be done that help training.  Especially tummy exercises as having a strong 'core' really helps speed training.  I did 20 minutes in the morning and repeated the exercises in the evening. Rest day over with!

Its the Final Count down - Friday 15 July 2011

Today I am picking up my running bid/number from run4it shop.   OMG I cant beleive it!! I am sooo excited! If you could see me my face is beaming.   I have clocked myself speaking to others about the race and I sound almost 'giddy'...Is this natural??   I feel I am more nervous about sponsorship/donations than the race..hint hint everyone :) The only other complication is the weather.   I have a new green vest top but that is only going to work if its a sunny day.  Then if its sunny that really can slow everyone down as it is so hot.  But on the other hand most of my long runs in training have been sunny hot days (can you beleive it!).   I kid you not I have a t shirt tan already without being on holiday yet.   But I cant control the weather so  I suppose I just need to Relax.

So today is my last blog.   My next one will be my post race summary on Monday 18th July.   Bye bye fellow runners and supporters
