Carolina House Trust has maritime connections the charity at its inception came about as a direct result of the ferry disaster on the river Tay in 1815. Over the years the trust has been privileged to take advantage of its association with the River Tay when it was linked with The Families Pride fishing boat.

When this association came to an end the Trust looked to purchase a replacement vessel. Carolina House is proud to own the “Carolina 1815 of Dundee”, a 40' Laurent Giles sloop, which was originally built in 1976. The yacht was fully refurbished in 2005/6 for Carolina House Trust by a group of dedicated volunteers under the guidance of our skipper Jim Cobb.

The role of the boat is to offer the young people cared for by the Trust new and exciting experiences out with their normal care settings. Our young people gain an insight into the demands of sailing, which promotes, a sense of team working, builds self-esteem and self belief in a new and sometimes harsh environment.

Carolina House Trust is currently developing links with other local charities and organisations to maximize the best use of the boat by disadvantaged young people.

The “Carolina 1815 of Dundee”  is presently based on the west coast of Scotland. It is a location which offers some of the best sailing experiences in the world and is well placed to provide an opportunity to visit well known places of interest i.e. Tobermoray (Balamory), The Sound of Mull, Iona, Staffa and many of the hundreds of small islands and remote places which make up the Hebrides.
